I’m an astrologer and a magician. I came to astrology by way of the ceremonial magic to trad astrology pipeline — it’s real useful to know something about the planets before you go doing those hexagram rituals (learned that one thru experience). I scorched my fingers, as jake stratton kent has referenced the process of learning magic by doing. After that I started to study.

I found my teacher, Adam Elenbaas, by ‘pure chance.’ I got an ad for his yoga studio, down the street from my house. Adam was teaching a 4 hour on the structure hellenistic astrology, in the tradition of Robert Schmidt. I sat at his feet (literally) and got my mind blown.

After that, astrology very quickly took over my life.

I took 3 years of coursework with Adam - year 1 & 2, and his Horary course. I went to NORWAC and met my community. I quit my job in film & tv.

I continued my spiritual practice, which has taken a winding road from reiki, Tibetan Buddhism, to dual-wielding Thelema & Zen. When traditional astrology entered the chat in 2017, the Greco-Roman pantheon hit me like a truck.

My deity practice exploded. I’d started years earlier with Pan, Hekate, Horus, Isis and Osiris. I moved past the central thelemic figures, saying hi to Artemis and Demeter and to the 7 planets as well. But when I engaged with astrology, my sphere expanded to include Asclepius (introduction via sphere & sundry).

I was called to other Gods - Hera, Athena, Apollo. The fixed stars Regulus & Deneb Algedi.

Through the gateway of astrology, I began to explore the western occult tradition that predates the spiritual understanding of Crowley and the other Thelemites.

Magic that was stamped down by the Church, whose attempt to become the only game in town was aided by the Enlightenment and the rise of Rationalism.

There is a thread of spiritual instruction that passes from mouth to ear, teacher to student.

This is the knowledge that “the universe is alive and talking to us - this is not a metaphor” (Terrance McKenna). god is speaking to us and can be spoken to. Change can be made in ways that physics can’t account for (yet?) - the world is a stranger place than we will ever know - this is our birthright.

We all deserve sit around that warm light of the fire of the sages. I aim to make what I’ve gathered available to anyone who seeks it.
